A chest seal treats open chest wounds caused by penetrating chest trauma. When the chest cavity is breached, air can enter the pleural cavity and prevent the lung from re-expanding. Left untreated, this can progress to tension pneumothorax, a life-threatening emergency. Applying a vented SAM Chest Seal covers the wound while the TRUFLOW valve allows trapped air to escape, stabilizing the patient until definitive care.

The Valved 2.0 features a rigid raised-dome TRUFLOW valve that allows one-way airflow out of the chest cavity, making it the preferred option for most penetrating chest trauma protocols. The Non Valved version is a standard airtight dressing used when vented seals are not indicated by local protocol or when a simple dressing is required. The Combo pack includes both so you are ready for either scenario.

The SAM Chest Seal's advanced hydrogel adhesive is engineered to hold through extreme heat, cold, blood, sweat, and body hair, conditions where other seals can fail. The TRUFLOW valve's large side vents minimize internal obstruction from blood clots or soft tissue, and the seal is designed to reseal if briefly disturbed during patient movement or transport with body armor. Clear the wound area of blood and environmental contaminants as quickly as the situation allows. Open the foil pouch, remove the transparent backing, and position the seal directly over the chest wound. Press firmly around the entire wound area to achieve a full seal.
